Christian Communicators of Pennsylvania seeks to meet the academic needs of its member families; therefore, the ages listed for each student track for club purposes are recommendations only; they are based on the mandatory tournament competition age requirements established by the NCFCA league. CCofPA strives to provide skill and ability appropriate instruction for the individual student as listed below.

Competitive Track (Ages 12-18 by January 1st)
Competitive Track students are eligible to participate in either Debate Club or IE Club, or both. In order to be eligible to compete in NCFCA sanctioned qualifying tournaments, a competitor must be 12-18 years of age on or before January 1st of the school year in which they compete. In addition, the student must be taught at home by their parent(s) or legal guardian a minimum of 51 percent of the time. Competitors who have graduated from twelfth grade or have enrolled in a college-level degree program are not eligible; no more than 49 percent of a competitor’s education may consist of college level courses. All students in this track will compete together at tournaments, as there are no age or skill level distinctions.

Debate Club
These students will learn intermediate and advanced argumentation and debate theory, develop public speaking skills, apply elementary logic, utilize research skills, and study topical information related to the current NCFCA resolution. This track will be involved in roundtable discussions, in-house debates, and critiquing sessions, and students will be separated into breakout groups according to academic understanding at various points throughout the course of the season for the purpose of allowing students to advance at their own pace.
All students must pass the debate assessment test as a prerequisite to participating in CCofPA’s Debate Club.

Participation in CCofPA debate scrimmages and workshops is mandatory for students in this track; participation in all other tournaments is at the discretion of the parent(s).

IE Club (Public Speaking - Individual Events)
These students will learn the various types of speeches offered in NCFCA sanctioned competitions. This track will be required (but not limited) to develop and present at least one speech during the season. Students will be separated into breakout groups according to the event in which they are participating for the purpose of coaching and critiquing in the areas of basic presentation style, content, and organization.
There is no prerequisite for participation in CCofPA’s IE Club.

Participation in CCofPA IE workshops is mandatory for students in this track; participation in all other tournaments is at the discretion of the parent(s).

Junior Track (Age 12 & Under)
Introducing basic public speaking principles and developing the related skills is the primary focus for this age category. In addition, limited elementary debate theory will be presented to these students, as well as instruction on timing debate rounds. Juniors may participate in individual public speaking events (IEs) at practice tournaments where the Junior Track competition is available. The ability to read and write is a prerequisite for children in this track.

Little Stars (Ages 0-7)
Childcare and age appropriate public speaking activities are provided for children in this age category. Every effort is made to make club time productive for the youngest siblings.

Student Instructor
Students Instructors are required to have advanced debate and/or IE training or to have consistently proven their academic understanding and proficiency in tournament competition. In addition, they must have a proven record of adhering to the CCofPA Code of Conduct by modeling Christlike behavior, as well as possessing leadership skills. All Student Instructors will be selected at the discretion of the debate and/or IE coach and are subject to the approval of the Club Coordinator.
